DCF Books and Red Clover Award Books In!
The newest award nominated books for children are in at the Royalton Memorial Library. The DCF books (for Dorothy Canfield Fisher) are geared for 3rd – 6th graders. Here is a quick history of the award taken from the DCF website at http://www.dcfaward.org. “First given in 1957, the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award has honored quality literature for children for 50 years now. Each spring, a committee of eight carefully selects 30 books to comprise the DCF Master List. After reading at least 5 books from the list, students then vote for their favorite titles the following spring. The winning author is invited to visit Vermont to speak with children about the experience of writing such fine literature for such fine people.”
The Red Clover award books are picture books. Following are some clips from the Red Clover Website athttp://www.mothergooseprograms.org/lit_red_clover_overview.php. “The Red Clover Award promotes the reading and discussion of the best of contemporary picture books in nearly all of Vermont’s elementary schools. Each year over 20,000 K-4 students read, or have read to them, the ten nominated books.
The Red Clover Award is co-sponsored by Mother Goose Programs, Windham County Reads and the Vermont Departments of Education and Libraries.”
