Dear Friends of the Library,
It’s been a little over a year ago that I took the position as director at Royalton Memorial Library and I am pleased to report that the library has seen an increase in visitors and an increase in the number of varied library programs it currently offers. It is my goal to have Royalton Memorial Library continue to expand and grow with our community in mind. I would like to thank you for your support and for making our 2017-2018 annual appeal such a success. The library welcomed and served over 7,375 library visitors and circulated 6,688 library materials. Your donations allowed us to purchase 310 new library items. We offered two seasonal 8 weeks long reading programs: Cabin Fever Challenge for young adults and adults and the nation-wide summer reading program, Libraries Rock, for children, Pre K – 5th grade. We added a Wellness book club in addition to the well-established Fall and Spring books clubs. And two new film series, including the popular Sunday evening Bad Movie Night.
This year our exhibits included the annual student art show, paintings by Peter Shvetsov, photographs by John Duffy. Chris Noble, local bee expert presented Beekeeping 101 and naturalist Sylvia Spain held a Foraging for Mushrooms class. Area authors and illustrators Erin Rounds, Scott Fisk and Joni B. Cole held workshops for children and adults. And volunteer, Betty LaWhite, helped members brush up on their computer skills, and the very popular Ms. Paula and Ms. Jenn led preschoolers in Storytime every Thursday morning.
Children, young adults, and adults came in daily to use laptops, high-speed internet, scan, print, socialize and do homework. And the library staff provides free Inter-library loan service to order academic and reference materials.
We strive to provide both quality programs and excellent library services including researching and selecting new titles in regular/large print or Audiobook; and your suggestions are always welcome. The Library Board of Trustees continues negotiations with the town select board to build the addition in the spring using the bond that was already approved by the voters of Royalton, making the building accessible for all.
